1) What is Earth Explorer |
Earth Explorer is a powerfull tool designed to extract
topographics maps data and
to view them with a 3D render. Earth Explorer features (in the
final version : beta features may differ):
- A full topographic map processor to generate height map.
- A character recognition (check the spelling...) module.
- An OpenGL terrain engine.
- A fully skinnable GUI.
- An highly customizable module system.
- A user-friendly installation interface.

The terrain engine has the following features :
- Software optimisation such as frustum culling, quad tree, lod
- Texture generation
- raw Height map loading (up to 2048*2048 size)
- detail textures (require a ARB's multi texture extension).

Minimal Requirement:

Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, or Linux (gcc 2.96, kernel 2.4.) (Mandrake
8.2 was tested...) with XFree 3.3.6+GLX extensions.

128 mb ram.

Fully OpenGL 1.2 compatible Video Card, with
approriate drivers.

25 mb hardisk for installation + 25 mb for cache files.
Recomended Requirement:

Windows (2000, XP or higher) or Linux
(Mandrake 8.2 was tested.) with XFree 4.0 or higher.

Athlon or Pentium III at 800mhz or higher.

512 mb ram (the more you have ram, the best it
is...).

Nvidia GeForce 2 graphic adapter or higher.

200 mb hard disk space (only if you are using
the texture cache...).

It is not recommended to run Earth Explorer with
sofware driver such as Mesa under Linux or the Default OpenGL driver
supplied by Microsoft under Windows.

Earth Explorer was developed under Windows XP and
Linux Mandrake 8.2 with GeForce 2 Graphic adapter.

Earth Explorer is also available under BSD, but
with software OpenGL .
